Hi friends!
This month Porpoise Goods had the opportunity to be a part of a local fundraising series hosted by the wonderful folks at the Darling x Dashing Boutique here in Charlottesville, VA. The boutique is an artisan and consignment market led by longtime Charlottesville community advocate Linnea Revak.
Darling's quarterly fundraising auctions pair local businesses with a spotlighted non-profit cause. Local businesses then donate products to be bid on, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the cause selected for the fundraiser. This auction was dedicated to B.U.C.K. Squad (short for 'Brothers United to Cease the Killings'), which was founded in 2021 by Charlottesville natives Pertelle Gilmore and Herb Dickerson.
Members of B.U.C.K. Squad serve the local community by patrolling high-risk neighborhoods as violence interrupters and agents of conflict de-escalation. They advocate for disenfranchised communities in Charlottesville, and spend additional resources on youth engagement and programming. Since their inception in 2021, they have interrupted 211 potential acts of gun violence in the Charlottesville area. They are a textbook example of the positive effects that community outreach and engagement can have in areas where violence is most prevalent. Click here to learn more about B.U.C.K. Squad and contribute to their cause.
We're grateful to have had the opportunity to contribute to this event, and look forward to continue giving back to the local community where we are based. Congrats to all the auction winners, including one lucky bidder who snagged a full Porpoise pant and shirt set!
